Working predominantly with natural fibres, Irish artist Emily McIlwaine creates woven pieces that are influenced by rhythm, ritual and the delicate balance of tension and ease.
Emily draws from the natural flora and fauna of the Irish landscape to inspire her work, creating handspun yarns and natural dye pigments to incorporate into designs drawn upon the Bauhaus style. These artworks also explore the influence of Irish tradition, myth and the celtic wheel.
More recently, Emily has become a mother and is enjoying getting to know her little person while considering her practice direction. Emily is based at Vault Artist Studios in Belfast.
